Swim Teacher Training and First Aid Courses

As part of our ongoing training for our staff we run teacher training courses, CPD courses and lifeguard courses. Accredited by the various governing bodies all of our courses are run by our fully qualified, insured and CRB checked tutors.

Wessex Swim School has been training swimming teachers since 2005 and over 1,000 teachers have successfully completed their qualifications through us.

Become a swimming teacher:

STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming

(STC Beginner Course)

4 day course that enables you to teach beginner children. An introduction to swimming teaching, and basic essentials of teaching assessed by the STA – Swimming Teachers Association

STA Certificate in Aquatic Teaching – People with Disabilities

Special Needs Aquatic Teachers are qualified to teach basic aquatic skills to and understand the correct care and handling of, those with special needs they are also qualified to assist in the teaching of strokes. Teachers who wish to teach strokes and advanced aquatic skills must hold an approved swimming teaching certificate. Candidates must: Be at least 18 years old at the time of the examination Hold either the Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults online programme available online at www.trainsta.co.uk or acceptable equivalent Attend a course of instruction for a minimum of 24 hours including the ATFU. Candidates are assessed during the course, take a written theory examination at the end of the course and are assessed whilst teaching.

STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Baby and Pre-school course. 

The STA Award in Aquatic Teaching – Baby and Pre-School aims to produce teachers that can teach aquatic activities, including paddle strokes to babies and pre-school children during adult and children lessons. They are able to deliver the STA Starfish programme, as well as the Teddy Bear awards and up to the STAnley Series of STA’s International Learn to Swim Programme.

5 day course that enables you to teach all ages and abilities, indepth assessments of teaching and teaching practices. Assessed by the STA – Swimming Teachers Association

3 – 6 hour courses that count towards the STA CPD programme.

Become a lifeguard:

NPLQ – National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, 4 day course that covers resuscitation, first aid, spinal injuries. Enables you to work at any pool in the country. Assessed by RLSS – Royal Life Saving Society.
