Become a Swimming Teacher!!

As part of our ongoing training for our staff we run regular teacher training courses and CPD course. All of our courses are accredited by the various governing bodies, which are run by our fully qualified, insured and CRB checked tutors.
Wessex Swim School has been training swimming teachers since 2005 and over 1,000 teachers have successfully completed their qualifications through us.

Details on the courses available are listed below:

STA LEVEL 2 – AWARD

This is the first course you will need to complete, if you would like to become an STA Swimming Teacher. It is an introduction to swimming teaching, with basic essentials of teaching, assessed by the STA – Swimming Teachers Association.

The length of the course requires 49 National Guided Learning Hours, which is taken over a course of 4 days. Attendance at all sessions is compulsory.

28 Recommended Guided Learning Hours (In the classroom)
21 Non-contact Guided Learning Hours (At home – homework is required)

The course would qualify you to teach beginners.

STA LEVEL 2 – CERTIFICATE

This is the next stage to your qualification. The course aims to prepare holders to teach, without supervision, pupils of all levels. It enables you to teach all ages and abilities, with in depth assessments of teaching and teaching practices, assessed by the STA – Swimming Teachers Association.

In order to attend this course, you must have completed the STA AWARD course beforehand.

The length of the course requires 70 National Learning Hours, which is taken over a course of 6 days. Attendance at all sessions is compulsory.

28 Recommended Guided Learning Hours (In the classroom)
42 Non-contact Guided Learning Hours (At home – homework is required)

The course would qualify you to be fully qualified.

STA SAFETY AWARD FOR TEACHERS – LIFESAVING

This course replaces the STA Pool Emergency Procedure course, from September 2015.

Holders of the Lifesaving – Safety Award for Teachers are capable in pool rescue, first aid, adult, child and infant CPR techniques. Holders will be competent to deal with poolside emergencies in accordance with The HSE Publication Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools and British Standard BS EN 15288 Part 2, Safety Requirements for Operations.

The length of the course requires 6 Recommended Guided Learning Hours, which is taken over a 1 day course.
